Countries boost Green Jobs

Green jobs can be defined as jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, research and development, administration and service that contribute substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality, says Gustavo Copelmayer. The impact on the economy by this activity enhances sustainable development and ecological protection, he adds.

On a global scale, the International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that by the year 2030 the green economy will create more than 24 million bio jobs in the world, highlighting, among others, some little known such as those of environmental communicator, technician of sustainable tourism or eco-designer, says Gustavo Copelmayer based on the data.

This is how any professional activity that helps protect the environment and combat climate change by saving energy and raw materials, promoting renewable energy, reducing waste and pollution, protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, is considered a green job.

Green jobs are no longer a utopian dream. Across Europe, progress is being made towards greater sustainability with the creation of new, more stable, higher quality jobs that guarantee workers’ rights. But it is also true that there are many more jobs that protect the environment and sometimes go under the radar, such as those that improve industrial processes, reduce the level of waste or improve the quality of building construction.

Ultimately, there are green jobs in areas as diverse as engineering, science, masonry, manufacturing, or technology development. For example, to manufacture an electric car, someone needs to design it, someone else to build it, someone else to maintain it, someone else to repair it, thus there is a long production chain that needs specialized personnel, concludes Gustavo Copelmayer.
