Turning off the light is fine, decarbonizing is better

It’s not just about turning the TV and lights off when you leave the room. It is certainly a good habit. However, the most serious proposal is the gradual abandonment of fossil fuels, says Gustavo Copelmayer. This personal task is not easy because oil is the basis of thousands of products that we use every day, says Gustavo Copelmayer and adds that from the most obvious, such as diesel or gasoline that feeds the automotive system, to others such as petroleum jelly present in many cosmetics, are part of daily life. The solution is drastic and consists in reducing our rate of petrolization or decarbonization as a daily citizen action. The next thing to examine is the air conditioning of homes and offices to replace heating oil with natural gas or using solar panels to generate electricity, says Gustavo Copelmayer.

Another element from oil and petrochemicals is plastic. It would be convenient to reduce the use of disposable plastics, synthetic fabrics such as polyester and buy clothes made of 100% cotton or even wool, linen or other natural fibers that are also better for health, since many of these synthetic fabrics include chemicals that can be harmful to our health, concludes Gustavo Copelmayer.
