The largest battery in the world

The state of Victoria, in South Australia, will complete, by the end of 2021, the construction of the battery network that will offer 450 megawatt hours of energy storage. The announcement was made by the Tesla company and mentions that the colossal 300 megawatt battery will work for grid stabilization and renewable energy storage.

This mega battery is three times the size of Tesla’s original 100 MW system built in Hornsdale, which was the largest in the world when it was built just three years ago. In Gustavo Copelmayer’s opinion, consumers in Victoria will pay for battery use through payment for electricity consumption, however the study predicts that energy bills will go down as a result of this project. This mega battery will allow coal-fired power plants to run at more consistent and predictable (and therefore cheaper) performances, letting gigantic battery instant response times take care of load spikes.
