The G-7. What does the Cornwall agreement raise on the environmental issue?
The so-called Cornwall consensus committed the leaders of the 7 most powerful countries on the planet, the G-7, to carry out what they called “the green revolution”. The aim is to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5°C, achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, as well as cut emissions
by half by 2030 and conserve or protect at least 30% of land and oceans by 2030.
“According to all the published documents, this consensus is decisive in the fight against climate change, and we can note that the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement on climate, an agreement from which it emerged during the presidency of Donald Trump, is one of the agreements of greater convergence in Cornwall,” emphasizes Gustavo Copelmayer.
The funds to be granted by the G-7 countries will serve to accelerate the global shift towards renewable energies and sustainable technologies and is estimated to reach a sum of more than 700 million euros. This amount will be used to reduce emissions, repair nature, create jobs and ensure long-term economic growth.
Similarly, as an urgent response to humanity, the G-7 announced that they will donate one billion vaccines against Covid-19 to the poorest countries, before this warning, the World Health Organization said that 11 billion vaccines are needed to immunize 70% of the world’s population.
