World Water Day: What To Know About The Water Crisis
On March 22, World Water Day is celebrated, a day to stop and reflect on the importance of clean water and what are the main problems of the water crisis, to make a difference, says Gustavo Copelmayer.
- 748 million people in the world do not have access to water. What’s more, every 1 in 4 people do not have access to a toilet.
More children die from diarrheal diseases caused mainly by contaminated water than from malaria, AIDS and measles combined. - Every 60 seconds a child dies from diarrheal disease.
- More people die from drinking contaminated water than from violence.
- 40 billion hours a year are spent in Africa to collect water.
- 22% of health facilities do not have purified water (less developed countries).
