Environmental groups warn of the risk of sinking an oil tanker in Venezuela

Oil spills are very negative accidents that highly affect the environment, generating acute pollution that even leads to the death of many organisms. Not to mention that these crude oils are extremely toxic.

The Nabarima oil tanker, has been stranded for days on the Venezuelan coast, contains a cargo of 1.5 million barrels and is beginning to sink.

The risk of a possible oil spill of such magnitude alerted environmentalists after the ship tipped. In addition to environmental groups, oil unions and deputies have demonstrated to prevent a catastrophe.

But according to Gustavo Copelmayer, the bad news doesn’t get there, Nabarima has no employees, the alarms are broken and the electric generators are useless.

“According to the information we handle, it is a construction in poor condition, heeling and with internal leaks. The crude must be stored in a double liner, and there is, for now, the guarantee that it will not leak. Unless it turns around: if that alteration of its axis that has been noted continues, that could happen, and it would be a tragedy ” -Alejandro Álvarez (Translated)
